<h2>La moda delle fotografie post mortem si diffuse verso la fine dell&#8217;ottocento con lo sviluppo della fotografia.</h2>

<p>I motivi di questa macabra usanza, per ragioni economiche diffusa soprattutto tra le famiglie più agiate (ai tempi la fotografia era costosa) erano legate a due fattori: la morte era una presenza costante della vita, la mortalità infantile era molto alta e infatti spesso queste foto ritraggono bambini o adolescenti; la fotografia era costosa e non sempre le famiglie avevano provveduto a ritrarre su dagherrotipo il loro parente defunto.</p>

<p>Da qui nacque questa modalità macabra di ritrarre il defunto, inizialmente il caro estinto, spesso bambini, venivano ritratti da soli, nelle culle o nei letti, come se fossero solo addormentati.</p>

<p>In seguito però cominciarono ad essere fotografati come vivi tra i vivi, per rendere il ritratto più naturalistico il morto aveva gli occhi aperti ed era appoggiato ad ausili meccanici che gli permettevano una postura adatta al ritratto.</p>

<p>I risultati erano oltremodo inquietanti, un brivido corre lungo la schiena vedendo queste fotografie, i morti sono da un&#8217;altra parte, c&#8217;è solo il corpo, ma è un corpo inanimato e quegli occhi&#8230; eppure ai parenti quella fotografia che a noi appare così macabra doveva scaldare il cuore, serbando l&#8217;immagine cara del loro defunto.
